LITERATURE AND BEER (THESE ARE A FEW OF MY FAVORITE THINGS)

According to a new history of the Guinness brewery, James Joyce offered the following tagline for an ad campaign for Ireland's favorite brew:

"the free, the flow, the frothy freshener".

It beats the hell out of "tastes great, less filling", hmm?

It also turns out famed mystery writer Dorothy Sayers was a copywriter at the ad agency that created the Toucan ads that helped spread the popularity of the beer.
